This ride started in Fair Haven, at the Shaws Supermarket. We parked in the parking lot, and headed north on Route 22A. The road was fairly busy but the shoulder was wide. The next turn is a quick to the right onto Sheldon Road. You will know it by the Camp Wood sign on the corner. Sheldon swings around as Bigelow Road, and joins 22A briefly before turning left onto Main Road, which becomes Stage Road toward Benson.

This region is famous for their slate, particularly their slate roogs. So much so that the Fair Haven High School mascot is the “slaters.” In Fair Haven, and in the surrounding area, a fair number of roofs are the multicolor patchwork slate that is common of a certain era when “slate was king!”
