Whimsical Brattleboro

Located about 10 miles north of the Massachusetts border, Brattleboro is a funky little enclave of eateries, artistic endeavors, and comfortable residential areas. This route makes for a short ride (less than 8 miles) with moderate elevation.

We parked at the very cute Brattleboro Pool and Living Memorial Park. It was threatening to rain, so we wanted to get a quick ride in. We

Turing right, we rode out Guilford St. for several miles climbing up to a high ridge line of gentle ups and downs, with nice residential homes on either side. The ride then goes down and down, 200 feet in elevation in a mile and a half- an invigorating experience – before the route turns left onto Guilford Center Road.

At the end of Guilford Center, you turn right back toward Brattleboro. The ride then is all asphalt and continues along the Coolidge Hwy and eventually Canal Street. You bike over two miles on outer Canal, through Guilford Center, and passing a funky ice cream stop.

The closer you get in to Brattleboro, the more built up the road becomes. You ride under the interstate. Then soon you are surrounded by Dunkins and drug and grocery stores. Winding through the urban centering. From there you can turn left onto Belmont or you can stay and eventually turn left on Maple to head back to the Living Park and its parking.

We went out for dinner that night at Vegan A.F. and it was excellent – especially the buffalo cauliflower!
