Bridport

We showed up in Bridport on a foggy fall morning to do this short but sweet ride. During the ride, the fog never really burned off, so all of our pictures look ghostly and white- which is somewhat appropriate since many of the locals had already put out the Halloween decorations.

We parked in Bridport village, where there was a sweet little village center and plenty of parking. We rode south for about two seconds, before turning right onto Crown Point Road. We stayed left at a fork in the road to turn onto the aptly named Happy Valley Road. This road immediately opened out to grand vista views of rolling farm fields to the left, and abundant apple orchards to the right. If it weren’t so foggy, it would have been some of the most stunning Vermont views we have seen.

At one point we passed enormous brown fields – yet to be harvested. Curious, we explored to determine they were fields of soybeans.

The best part of this ride came at the end of Happy Valley Road. We turned briefly onto Lapham Bay Road, and then quickly made a right onto Basin Harbor Road, a thin lane that looked like a cross between a rail trail and a class 4 road. It was thin, straight, and treelined, with beautiful fields on each side. Lovely!

Every once in a while, a farm field access road broke through the trees to show an expansive view of the fields and hills beyond.

When this section crossed Crown Point Road, then it opened up into a more typical gravel road, with a large dairy operation and more houses.

The end of this ride is a short two mile stint on pavement, climbing up and coasting down on Middle Road, with a few residential homes and very little traffic, back into Bridport.
