Wilmington and Whitingham
4/28/24
This was supposed to be a loop, but when we got into the ride, we discovered that part of it was on the VT VAST trail system, which would have taken us to the shoreline and around the reservoir. But, because of biking restrictions, we instead we had to turn around and do all again backwards.
We parked at the Shaws Grocery parking lot to begin, and headed down the hill into the village of Wilmington.
We turned right and headed south out of Wilmington on a beautiful residential road that eventually became more rural, with a beautiful view of the distant Green Mountains.
We had a short stint on Route 100 for a few miles, which could get a little scary due to heavy traffic. There was even one short class four section on this ride. It was fun and even a bit challenging to go down it. At the end is where we had to turn around because we met a local guy who said the road we were hoping to ride was being logged and off limits to bikers. That meant turning around and going right back up the class 4 section, which was just as challenging going back up, but not too bad, since it was a very short distance.
Then everything worked in reverse, for a total of 14 miles and 1900 vertical feet.
