Ira – A Single Village Ride

This is a super short ride – but necessary to get Ira. We parked at the Park and Ride parking lot across from the Ira Town Hall and kids park. This is a village center with nothing more than a town hall, a church, and a Park and Ride parking lot, so it didn’t take long to see it all. The funny thing about the Park and Ride was that it is so under-utilised that they had painted a pickle ball court onto the the park and ride parking lot with signs that say, “Don’t park on the pickleball court!”

From the Park and Ride you bike due west toward the hills or Ira. Very quickly you come to West Road, that runs left and right. We turend left originally, and rode until the road ran out. We then turned around and road rioght, where the gravel gets wider and better maintained. The road gradually climbs and climbs, past farms and farm houses, with beautiful farm views, until it reaches a crest.

We went left but then rode to a dead end class 4 washed out gravel track. We did that for a bit,but turned around, rode back to the T and tried the right spur. That was a back country through road mostly flat and sometimes rolling and with a gentle hill or two. We rode out one mile and turned around, and thus claiming Ira, VT. We saw working farms and pickup trucks kicking up dust.

The fun thing about this ride was that it was a lovely June day and lots of folks were out in their yard doing yardwork. We chatted with quite a few people, which was fun!
