This remote region of the “Northeast Kingdom, ” as referred to by the locals, is almost completely undeveloped. Nothing but trees for many, many square miles. There are few roads and not many residences. Amazing location, though. There are good views of Canada, looking north.

We parked on the side of Gaudette Road, and then rode south until it joined the high tension power service road. From there, the road got rougher. It becomes electric co. (private) road, but it seemed that biking was allowed there. So we went for it.

The power lines are powerful and awesome, bringing power from Hydro Quebec to southern New England. The gravel road was very smooth, with not much traffic, except border patrol trucks and ATV’s. A person could ride for miles under these high tension lines. We only rode three miles. Then we turned around and did it back.

This is an interesting section of the state. I named it “resourceful chic,” with each house immaculately maintained, with an elegant combination of renovation and preservation of the 1930’s architecture. We might not have chosen the best part to ride in by biking along the powerlines.

It would be nice to come back and do a different road or two as well. We are always in search of the perfect gravel!
