Essex Junction
September 7, 2025

We aren’t sure, but we think that Essex Junction might be counted as the 252nd town in Vermont. The 251 club list now has 252 towns on it, with no way of knowing which is the most recently added. But, since Essex Junction voted in 2021 to become their own entity, and is no longer a municipality within the town of Essex, it appears to have been added to the list – leaving us to scramble at the last minute to ride it.
Arriving in Essex Junction, we parked at the Maple Street Park and recreation area- which has a pool, various courts, and an activity room already hopping on an early Sunday morning. It probably has good parking any day of the week.

It is hard to find any gravel roads at all in Essex Junction, so this ride is on the wide paved streets through residential sections to the north of Maple Street and features curbs, sidewalks, and well maintained neighborhood homes.

We saw lots of folks out and about, riding their bikes, or walking their dogs – the typical urban American Sunday morning scene.

We looped around by the railroadstation, and through downtown to find a coffee shop. A very relaxing ride around town.

We really enjoyed stopping at Nest Coffee Shop and shared an excellent chocolate croissant. The cashier, Olivia said that there WERE gravel roads in town, and recommended Cascade Road as a gravel road, but we couldn’t verify that.
