Sweet Stamford – Three miles of cute.

Wind Turbines in Stamford – Chris Leister photo

Stamford is located at the very south of VT, bordering Massachusets. This three mile loop did not take us very long, which was good, since we did it right before sunset. It was mostly paved, but did not have a lot of traffic. We parked at the Stamford Community Church, unloaded our bikes, and headed south on Main Street.

We quickly turned left on The Lane, which had the golf course with excellent views of wind turbines on one side and bucolic sheep on the other. Something modern, bookended with something not.

While this ride did not have very much elevation gain, it started out pretty high with a ultimate height of 1250 feet, and the next left – onto East Road – offered some great views of the surrounding Green Mountains to the west.

We checked in and set up our camper at Woodford State Park, the highest elevation state park in VT, and kicked out five rides in two days. It was a whirlwind tour of the area. Stamford was the last ride of a very long day.

Note on Woodford State Park: While the view of the lake was beautiful, we did not love Woodford as much as the other VT State parks we have visited. Blame it on the over-abundance of gravel at each “natural” campsite, or the shower token fiasco (that they only take tokens and not quarters is something you don’t want to discover once you are already undressed, with shampoo in hand!)
