Waterbury, Duxbury, Bolton
10/8/23
This is a crazy skinny route designed just for getting us some towns that we need. It has an interesting footbridge river crossing, and some gorgeous views of the Winooski River.
It starts in Waterbury, where you park at the Waterbury Office Complex. From there we rode along the edge of a cornfield, past a cemetery, and over the Winooski Street Bridge.
That put us on River Road in Duxbury.
We rode west along the river until we got to the Green Mountain Club Long Trail crossing, a footbridge over the Winooski River, where we walked and carried out bikes. Carrying your bike up and over the footbridge was an interesting challenge that we have never encountered on any previous 251 ride, but a good adventure with a light bike. I’m not sure an e-bike could do it.
After we came down off the bridge, we rode along a single track footpath to US Route 2E. This was a section of the Long Trail, a footpath in the wilderness.
We rode on the Bolton Access Road, which climbs up 1700 feet of elevation past some interesting lawn art. Folks in Bolton like to be creative.
At the top of Bolton Access Road, to the Bolton Valley’s Ski Area Base Lodge. You then turn around and the ride screams back down that same steep rode.
You then cruise along the river again, via Route 2 East, and back to the starting point.
Fun challenging ride on a cool fall day!
